Vinterfest 18-21 February 2010

frost_skog"AT LAST A CLASSICAL MUSIC FESTIVAL THAT ROCKS"
The Times

"ONE OF EUROPE´S MOST ENJOYABLE FESTIVALS"
Oliver Condy, BBC Music Magazine

Unique festival
White snow, lightly dusted pine trees, frozen lakes and golden sunshine. In the midst of the glistening winter landscape of Dalarna, DalaSinfoniettan together with clarinettist Martin Fröst hosts Vinterfest, a chamber music festival with world-class performers. Here, the breathtaking scenery creates the perfect setting for a music festival and concert venues include the Anders Zorn Museum, which houses the largest and most important collection of works by Sweden´s national painter. Since the start in 2006, the festival has attracted several thousands of satisfied visitors who have listened to various internationally famous artists.

Vinterfest 2010
Music is fully enjoyed only when we are close to the physical experience.  2010 the Vinterfest concert programme is moving in and out of the different chambers of the body. Sonority, rythm, melody and harmony are as much of body and movement as they are of soul and intellect. Titles like In the Chest of a Romantic, Hokus Pokus– this is My Body, The Great Human Being, A Pulsating Musical Drug Store plus a children´s concert called And the Legs They Are A-running! all want to underline the physical side of music. When the body vibrates another body gets in tune. The body is the theme of this season.

Celebrating its 5th anniversary Vinterfest presents some news; Gesunda, Moraparken and Fryksås Hotell are official Vinterfest venues. The company Steinway & Sons offers a piano forte at Bonäsgården. Boggs Grus AB is offering Gamla Kättingfabriken (the old chain factory), to be rebuilt as a spectacular concert hall. The Gesunda Inn and master chef Melker Andersson are creating a culinary Vinterfest Symphony, to be enjoyed at several occasions. Mora Kulturhus (the cultural department of Mora) is co-producing the photo exhibition ”Body & Music” with us, where photographer Per Kristiansenis one of the photographers. Nikolaj Lund shows his day-by-day account of the festival. The Fashion Academy in Mora presents the Vinterfest Collection, created under the inspiration of Artistic Director Martin Fröst´s playing. We also proudly present Little Vinterfest – a concert with top class artists for our youngest listeners. And then we take the muscial debate to new levels when professor emeritus Bo Göranzon, formerly of the Royal Academy of Technology, invites Martin Fröst to illuminate on The Silent Knowledge of the Body.

The season´s artistic line-up is truly glowing!  Opera singer Anne Sofie von Otter, violinists Viviane Hagner, Julian Rachlin and Christian Svarfvar, violists Tabea Zimmermann and Göran Fröst, the Michelangelo Quartet, cellists Christian Poltéra, Frans Helmerson and Svante Henryson, the oboist Alexei Ogrintchouk, pianists Roland Pöntinen and Bengt Forsberg, singers Lena Willemark and Olle Persson, percussionist Niklas Brommare, musical comedians Igudesman  & Joo and, naturally Martin Fröst himself with his clarinet and DalaSinfoniettan, conducted by Bjarte Engeset. Adding to the total experience are our musical presentors Sofia Nyblom and Jonas Forssell.

Enjoy close encounters with the stars of chamber music right in the centre of the wonderful winter. Welcome to Vinterfest in Mora, Orsa and Älvdalen, 18-21 February 2010.
